Pompey boss in dilemma over Kanu

Kanu
Steve Cotterill admitted he is weighing up the best way to utilise Nwankwo Kanu‘s magic.

The Pompey boss has been blown away by the Kanu‘s mesmerising quality since he began working with him but he is still deciding how best to use his enigmatic skills to torment Championship defences.

Kanu was given extra time off after featuring for 90 minutes against QPR on Tuesday, with Cotterill trying to preserve the veteran as best he can.

Cotterill said, ”If you trained Kanu too hard, you may as well forget him for the game. It will take everything out of him that you want him to have.

”I rang him on Wednesday and asked him how he felt. He told me he was okay and a little bit stiff but sounded relaxed.

”‘I told him I was giving him another day off on Thursday, and it was ”Okay, thank you” and he hung up. That was it! You need to manage him differently, though.

”He could have been the difference in us winning the game on Tuesday. I thought he would cause them a problem and he did.

”I didn‘t think that would be the case if I played him against Derby.

”The guy is a magician but you‘ve got to have runners around him.

”Some of the things he does in training now make me laugh.

”He‘s a great man and a fantastic ambassador for our club.”
