As a musician ,do you have a favorite meal?
As a musician , I like all kinds of food like Amala with Ewedu soup, Pounded yam with Ogbono soup or Efo riro. But I don’t like Eba (garri) and Semo at all.
Tell us your favorite meal?
My favorite meal is Pounded yam with Ogbono soup. I love Pounded yam because it tastes very good. I mean when eaten with Ogbono soup it taste good. Pounded yam cannot be compared to any other meal. I also like eating my pounded yam with Ogbono soup because it’s our local soup. At other times, I eat it with Efo riro(vegetable soup). I don’t really know how to prepare food.
How did you come about making or choosing pounded yam as your best meal?
Actually, it was when I was growing up because my mum likes preparing the meal for us and sometimes she would prepare Eba(Garri) which I don’t like so much. She also prepares Amala (yam flour) which I prefer to Eba, whenever there’s no pounded yam.
What kind of drink do you normally take after your meal?
What I like taking after meal is just a cup of cold water. It goes with the meal and sometimes I take soft drinks.
Do you exercise?
I like jogging and I also like weight lifting. They keep me fit.
Pounded Yam
Pounded yam is a smooth dough of mashed yam often eaten with a vegetable soup or stew.
It is sometimes called pounded iyan (Iyan being the Yoruba word for pounded yam). It is much like mashed potatoes, but smoother, heavier, and tastier.
It is a very popular African food, especially in the middle belt, eastern and southern Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Cost (Côte d’Ivoire), Benin and some other parts of West Africa. Fresh Yams, from which pounded yam is made by boiling and then mashed.
Pounded yam is classified as a special delicacy. It is a highly prestigious meal all over Africa.
Pounded yam is thus an authentic African food! Presenting a dish of pounded yam and ogbono soup to visitors in Edo land in Nigeria for example, is considered a great act of hospitality.
Traditionally, pounded yam is made by boiling yams in a pot, and once cooked, it is placed in a mortar and pounded or beaten into a smooth textured dough with a three – five foot tall pestle.
