Aregbesola takes oath, freezes public accounts

The new Governor of Osun State, Engr Rauf Aregbesola has ordered the immediate frozen of all public accounts at all levels in the state, calling on the Accountant General of the state to present details of state account till November 26,  to his office immediately.
He said the action was not to punish anybody but to have a clearer picture of the state accounts before coming into the office.
Aregbesola in his inauguration speech delivered shortly after he was sworn in by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice George Olaniyi Ojo in Osogbo, Saturday, said his decision to freeze the state account was not to punish anybody but to get the record of the financial situation of the state straight.
The Governor who was sworn-in at exactly 3.00 pm at the premises of the Government Technical College, Osogbo amidst pomp and peagentries attended by four serving Governors said he decided to freeze the account to have a clear and unambiguous financial position of the state at all levels.
Aregbesola who was full of praises to God, attributed his victory at the Court of Appeal, Ibadan to God and dedicated same to the good people of the state, especially those who lost their lives during the election and struggle to reclaim his mandate.
Engr Aregbesola who solicited for the support and co-operation of all and sundry in the state, stressed that “Osun must develop, I am committed to developing the state, but I cannot do it alone. I need every one of you to achieve my dream for our dear state.”
His words “Let everybody come around and give meaningful and useful advice for the government for the development of the state.
This is your government and not my government. Osun has now become a true democratic state where the voice of the people will count. Let me assure you that you will all serve in this government since we cannot do it all alone.”
“We are face with many challenges and problems in this state but they are not insurmountable. Together and with the support of everybody we will get a good result that will advance the interest of the generality of the people of the state,” he added.
He also called on all the three arms of government to co-operate with him and be united in order to fight the mirage of problems confronting the state.
Aregbesola described his journey to victory as one that was not smooth, considering the hurdles he passed before achieving his goal.
According to him “Those who steal power for selfish interest should realize that it is temporary, only the power that come from God and from the people is permanent and everlasting.”
He said he was in Osun state to rekindle and restore their lost hope as a result of the misrule and misgovernment of the seven and a half years rue of former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola led PDP government.
He assured the people of the state that his government would restore dignity to governance and contribute to the well being of every individual in the state.
While lauding the judiciary for its independence and courageous way of dispensing justice, Aregbesola said “Nigeria now has a judiciary made up of men and women of courage and principle who money could not buy.”
Dignitaries at the occasion include the National Chairman of of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Chief Bisi Akande, former Lagos state Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu former Governors of Oyo, Ekiti, Yobe, Anambra and Ogun states, Chiefs Lam Adesina, Niyi Adebayo,Senator Bukar Ibrahim, Dr Chris Ngige and Aremo Olusegun Osoba.
Others are the Ekiti state Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi and his Lagos, Edo, Ondo states counterparts Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Comrade Adams Oshiomole and Dr Segun Mimiko respectively. Also present were Alhaji Asari Dokubo, Mr Femi Falana, Chief Michael Jolaoso, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora among other notable Nigerians.
