Aregbesola sworn in as Osun State Governor

 Aregbesola

The Court of Appeal in Ibadan on Friday, declared Rauf Aregbesola as the Osun State Governor after three and half years of legal battle.

The five-man panel led by Justice Clara Ogunbiyi nullified the election of Olagunsoye Oyinlola as governor of Osun and ordered that the Action Congress of Nigeria candidate in the April 14, 2007 elections, Aregbesola, be immediately inaugurated as governor in his place.

The Independent National Electoral Commission was ordered to withdraw the certificate of return earlier issued to Oyinlola and a fresh one issued to Aregbesola.

The decision was taken based on the nullification of results in 10 local government areas of the state. With 198,799 votes from the 10 LGs against the 172,880 votes of Oyinlola, he qualified as winner of the election.

More details to follow.
