Parties disagree over consensus candidates
The Action Congress of Nigeria on Wednesday said it was unaware of a plan by some parties to field consensus candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Reacting to a communiqué issued by the Patriotic Electoral Alliance of Nigeria at the end of a meeting that took place at Abuja on Thursday, the ACN Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, expressed doubts about a possible alliance among opposition parties.
The communiqué, which was signed by the chairman of the coalition, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, and Chairman, Organisaing Committee, Alhaji Umar Mustapha, reads, ‘Thirty-two progressive political parties in Nigeria under the auspices of PEAN have agreed to present common candidates at all levels in the forthcoming general election in Nigeria.”
The communiqué proceeded to list 32 political parties, include the ACN, the All Nigeria Peoples Party, Action Alliance, National Conscience Party, Democratic Peoples Alliance, Labour Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance and Alliance for Democracy.
