Diouf issues apology to rejoin Senegal’s squad

El Hadji Diouf
Senegal international and Blackburn Rovers striker, El Hadji Diouf, sent an open letter to Senegal press agency, APS, appealing for his reintegration into the national team after voluntarily retiring in April 2009.

He says he is happy with the progress of the team and the efforts of the technical staff, and is willing to abide by all procedures to regain a spot within the Lions of Teranga set up.

“I have officially notified all the relevant bodies of my willingness to reconsider my retirement decision and come back to the Senegalese national team,” Diouf said in his letter.

“I want to reiterate that I had in the recent past made the decision to withdraw from the team for personal reasons. Considering the collective efforts and progress made so far in reconstructing the team, I am pleased to welcome the new dynamics, and express my gratitude to the coaching staff and the players.”

The 29-year-old former Sunderland player also apologised for his numerous gaffes to the sports community in a bid to remake the bad boy image he has earned for himself in Senegal.
