Stillbirth can be devastating, unpredictable’




Mrs. Helen Akanji was 32 weeks pregnant when the doctor induced labour because her unborn son had died. For Mrs. Akanji and her husband, who were already preparing to receive the baby and their daughter expectant of a brother, it was really traumatic.
While recounting her painful experience said, “I stopped feeling the movement of the baby a day before my next antenatal appointment and so I decided to wait to call the attention of the nurse to this. The hardest part of it for me was when an ultrasound test requested by the doctor indicated that the baby was no more moving again because he was dead.”
Unfortunately, Mrs. Akanji has joined more than half a million women each year who lose a child to miscarriage or still birth. For many people, both men and women, losing a child through miscarriage, stillbirth or during the early months of its life can be devastating.
