
In the course of a recent dialogue between me and my daughter on the concept of plea bargaining in the Nigeria justice system, the 17-year old damsel asked thus: “Daddy, is it only for the high and mighty?” My response to her question revolves within the ambit of what I enunciated in the latter part of this write-up as the ugly implications of the subject matter under consideration.
For the purpose of clarity, I am not a legal practitioner, neither do I have anything to do with the Nigerian law courts. I am rather an industrial relations professional by training. Although, I have limited knowledge of law due to the tutelage I received in the course of my study in Labour Law, the Nigerian Legal System, Law of Contract, among others which were components of my academic curriculum while in the university. Therefore the background I am endowed with places me in good stead to appreciate a bit of the topical issue under reference.
