The Senate may have dropped its earlier bid to amend the Electoral Act 2006 through a private member bill, as there are no signs of any bill before the upper house, SUNDAY PUNCH has gathered.
The Senate had resolved to use a private member bill to effect changes to the Act to conform to the new provisions inserted into the Constitution to allow the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct elections later in April 2011.
