Nuhu Wya, Minister of State for Power
In his essay 'A Hundred Years’ written to celebrate the centenary of The Guardian (of London) in 1921, the newspaper’s then editor, CP Scott, had penned this famous sentence: “comment is free, but facts are sacred.”
This enduring statement is being attacked daily by the unions in the electricity sector and their sympathisers in the futile bid to hold back the development of the Nigerian economy. Having failed to elicit sympathy over the issue of monetisation arrears which has been duly addressed by the Federal Government, their radar is now focused on making claims that would not stand scrutiny. The most recent being fallacious assertions by a so-called Joint Action Forum (JAF) against the privatisation programme of the Federal Government. JAF’s pitch is for a halt to the privatisation of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
