Minimum wage: Northern CAN, ACF urge Labour to shelve strike
Following the deadlocked meeting between the organized labour and the Federal Government, the Christian Association of Nigeria in the 19 Northern states and the umbrella Northern socio-political organization, the Arewa Consultative Forum on Tuesday in Kaduna appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to shelve their proposed nationwide industrial strike over the non-implementation of the N18, 000 national minimum wage.Chairman of the Northern states CAN, Archbishop Peter Jatau argued that although the planned strike by the NLC and TUC was justified, the masses of the country would be at the receiving end of such action by the organized labour
atau said in Kaduna that, “Northern CAN appreciates the plight of Nigerian workers as regards their salaries. The demand for N18, 000 minimum wage is justifiable considering the economic situation in the country.
However, we would like to appeal to the Nigerian Labour Congress to have a rethink on its planned strike as the masses would be the ones to bear the consequences of the action,” he added.
