Four hours With Uwaifo’s retrieval of historical horrors





t was to be an interview for Sir Victor Uwaifo at his residence in Benin but what KEHINDE OYETIMI found in the maestro’s residence were spectacles of love, tragedy, customs, the good, the bad, the ugly and the horrendous. THE milieu was serene with all the trappings of a residential area. The street stayed distinctly on the popular College Road in the historic city of Benin. The house on that street had some peculiarities that almost told of the owner’s idiosyncrasies. The sculpture that stood not too far from the gate spoke little of the mysteries locked in the building behind. The gate and the walls that surrounded it, with the flags hoisted there, almost but could not fully capture the arteries into the heart of the establishment. It was meant to be an interactive session with the revered Victor Uwaifo until Sunday Tribune was taken into the belly of the oddities that lurked within those walls
