First Bank for African basketball playoffs

First Bank defeated Sunshine Angels of Akure 63-38 on Sunday in Kano to qualify for the African Women‘s Basketball Club playoffs starting on Friday in Tunisia.

It was the reverse match as the Bankers also won the first match on last Friday 69-56.

First Bank coached by Aderemi Adewunmi won the first three quarters 15-13, 15-8, 22-4, while the ladies from Akure won the fourth by 13-11. The feat gave the Elephant Girls the sole ticket from the Kano centre while Sunshine ladies were placed on standby for a wildcard entry.

The President of FIBA Africa Zone Three Mr. Muktar Khaleh told our correspondent on the telephone on Monday that the wildcard beneficiary had not been decided.

”For now it is not very clear but I hope to hear from (Alphonse) Bile on the final decision for the wildcard. I do believe that Sunshine will most likely get that,” Khaleh said.

From the Ivory Coast centre Club Sportive of Abidjan defeated Abidjan Basketball Club to join the Nigerian team as representatives from the Zone Three. We learnt that ABC of Ivory Coast are also pushing for the wildcard ticket.
