Call centre operators shun SIM card registration

Some call centre telephone line owners and operators said in Lagos on Wednesday that they would not register their SIM cards in view of the risks involved.

They said this in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria.

They said that registering their call centre lines posed serious danger to their business interests.

The President, National Association of Telecoms Subscribers, Chief Deolu Ogunbanjo, said that Nigerian Communications Commission should educate and enlighten the call centre line operators on the SIM card registration exercise.

He said the call centre operators might be scared to register their lines because people might use the lines to make fraudulent calls.

Miss Mary Bright, a Lagos-based call centre operator, said that she was not ready to register her Zoomobile line because doing so was very risky.

She said, “I was told that my picture will be on the line and any crime committed on the call centre line will be traced to me.

“So, I don’t want to put myself into trouble all because of doing business, that is why I will not register my call centre line.”

Miss Kemisola Akinshola, another call centre operator, said that she would only register her personal line.

“I will like to know the details of any instruction given in respect of the SIM registration before acting on it so as not to put myself in trouble,” she said.
