The President of Soroptimist International, Mrs. Bjorg Lawal, has said the organisation will embark on a special programme for women that are willing to advance the cause of human rights and the status of women in Nigeria.
Addressing journalists in Lagos, Lawal said the organisation also planned to hold a health screening exercise for market women in Lagos State on November 29, 2010.
The programme, which is scheduled to hold in Lagos, she said, would have nothing to do with either politics or religion.
She said, “The core objective of the Soroptimist International is to maintain a high ethical standard and to strive for human rights.”
Lawal added that the organisation hoped to screen a total of 600 women every year, while a follow-up would be carried out with the assistance of reputable hospitals and clinics under the supervision of the Lagos State Ministry of Health.
