The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has said it will soon begin search of vehicles on major highways in Ekiti State, in a bid to arrest drug traffickers.
The state Commander of the Agency, Mr Akingbade Bamidele, announced the new measure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in the state capital, Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday.
He said the re-introduction of the ‘stop and search’ measure was in response to the high incidence of drug trafficking during festive periods.
Bamidele further said NDLEA operatives had been deployed in strategic spots and would search both passengers and vehicles plying the highways, saying that inter-state boundaries and township link roads would be the focal points of the agency during the period under consideration.
Bamidele appealed to residents of the 16 local government areas in the state to continue to collaborate with the agency by providing useful information on any suspicious movement of people around them.
