Musicians not accorded due respect – PMAN

Musicians are not accorded due respect like other professionals in Nigeria because they are perceived as illiterates, an official of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria, has said.

Assistant General Secretary of PMAN, Kenny George, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Thursday that many Nigerians did not have faith in musicians but regarded them as never-do-wells.

He, however, said that such perception had not deterred the average Nigerian musician, who he described as hardworking and creative.

“The fact that people castigate us does not make the least musician’s work less an intellectual property.

“When it comes to intellectuality, the musician is the number one because the so-called uninformed and unenlightened musician can come out with a big hit and become a superstar,” he said.
