Additional social and economic hiccups begin today nationwide, lasting till Friday for a start, owing to the strike organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in its agitation for a new minimum wage of N18,000 expected to cushion hardship for the common man.
Labour leaders on Tuesday night decided to press ahead with the strike after talks with President Goodluck Jonathan and other Aso Rock officials did not yield fruit.
Acting NLC President, Promise Adewusi, and Trade Union Congress ( TUC) leader, Peter Esele, said their team would report progress to their various unions at 3 p.m. today to decide whether to call it off or not.
"We have heard the message of Mr. President, we are going to go back to our organs. The only thing we can say for now is that the strike is on until called off by the organ that instituted it", said Adewusi.
Jonathan had cut short his visit to Lagos to hold the parley in the hope that the unionists would hearken to his pleas to give Abuja more to time set in motion the legal process to pay the minimum wage.
