Businessperson of the Year

A lot of CEOs are looking pretty impressive right now. How could they not? After the disaster that was 2009, any economic spark was almost certain to create fast growth. So when Fortune set out to pick the Businessperson of the Year -- and the 49 runners-up -- we searched for leaders who didn't just crawl from the wreckage of the Great Recession, but sprinted from it. Here you'll find the people in 2010 who showed how to invent new markets, supercharge old businesses, and crush the competition. Ellen Kullman turned sleepy DuPont into a stock market phenom. Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook added 150 million users in 12 months. Steve Jobs birthed a new class of computer and made Apple the most valuable tech company in the galaxy. Alan Mulally proved that Ford's reinvention wasn't a fluke. And Reed Hastings at Netflix showed how a bet-the-company move works and that even a small player can quietly change an industry. These stars have made the biggest impact on the business world; no doubt most are busy scripting their parts for next year.
