Battered but undaunted, the story of Crescent varsity’s best student

She lost her father in her second year at the university and her retired teacher mother could not afford to sponsor her education at the Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun State. But undaunted by the enormity of her predicament, she proved remarkably resilient and emerged the best graduating student of the Islamic-faith-based university. Segun Olugbile captures the winning strategy of Miss Fatimah Ajagbe in this report. Beyond the rigours of paramilitary exercises that members of the National Youth Service Corps go through in orientation camps, the three-week programme usually offers corps members lots of fun. The fresh graduates meet new friends from various tertiary institutions across the country. They learn to eat new food, hear new songs and engage in relationships, depending on what their interests are. But in spite of all of these, the camping time, as well as the entire service period, is a time of anxiety for many of the corps members who take time to remember the rate of unemployment in the country.
