PDP cannot defeat ACN in Lagos —Aregbesola

Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, Osun Stat
Osun State governorship candidate of the Action Congress in 2007 (now Action Congress of Nigeria), Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday argued that the Peoples Democratic Party cannot defeat his party in Lagos State in the 2011 general elections.

Aregbesola spoke at Alimosho Local Government of Lagos during the empowerment programme for less privileged and widows by the Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Sosan’s. No fewer than 700 women were given various items to carry out their businesses.

Specifically, Aregbesola said the governorship race in Lagos was already settled as the ACN would sweep the state again due to its performance, adding that no opposition party including the PDP, could withstand the popularity of his party, in the state.

“The governorship in Lagos State is in our hand and nobody can challenge us here, not even the PDP. The progressives are the ones leading Lagos State,” he stated

On the second term bid of Fashola, Aregbesola recalled that when the former governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, chose Fashola to vie for the governorship in 2007, many people opposed it but that Fashola came out to be a performer who excelled in several areas.

According to him, Fashola is still the best man for the job, stressing that ”it is the person who knows how to do the job that we must follow.”

Aregbesola added that since it was Tinubu who knew how to choose good leaders, the people must follow him. “We have seen that in every angle he points to, there is always progress,” he said.

He also called on Alimosho people to ensure that they turned out massively to register in the forthcoming INEC‘s registration, adding that he wanted a situation where the council would be able to turn out one million people to register.

However, on the empowerment initiative, Sosan stated that empowering the people was simply a way of extending the dividends of democracy to the people, saying that more people would soon benefit from the gesture as government would be moving from council to council to empower the people.

Items given to the beneficiaries include sewing machine, grinding machines, refrigerators, bags of rice and beans, bulk provisions, among others.
