Six arraigned for robbing man of cows


Six persons, including a 65-year-old woman, have been arraigned before an Ebute Metta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly robbing a man of his cows at gunpoint.

The accused are Adeola Adedayo, female, 65; Iyabo Alao, female, 50; Hammed Adamu, male, 33; Abdullahi Atiku, male, 40; Abdullahi Aliu, male, 27; and Muhammed Abdullahi, male, 30.

Adedayo and Alao were said to have received the stolen cows from the other four accused, who had, on September 12, 2010, robbed one Alhaji Bolaji Raimi at Abule Eko, Ijede, Lagos, of his 19 cows valued at N3.8m.

The alleged robbers were said to have armed themselves with a gun and other dangerous weapons to rob the victim.

The counts two, three and four on the charge sheet obtained by PUNCH METRO stated, “That you Hammed Adamu, male; Abdullahi Atiku, male; Abdullahi Aliu, male; and Muhammed Abdullahi, male; and others at large on September 12, 2010, at Abule Eko, Ijede, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District while armed with a gun and other dangerous weapons did rob one Alhaji Bolaji Raimi, male, of his 19 cows valued at N3.8m.

“That you Iyabo Alao, female, on September 23, 2010, at Abule Eko, Ijede, Lagos, did receive seven cows valued N1.4m from Hammed Adamu, which were suspected to have been stolen and unlawfully obtained.

“That you Adeola Adedayo, on September 23, 2010 at Abule Eko, Ijede, did receive three cows valued N600,000 from Abullahi Atiku, which were suspected to have been stolen and unlawfully obtained.”

Police Prosecutor, Sgt Adigun Abolarin, said the offences contravened Section 1 (2) (a) of the Criminal Code Cap C17, Vol. II, Laws of the Federation, 2004; Section 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap C17 Vol II Laws of Lagos State, 2003; and Section 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C17 Vol. II Laws of Lagos State, 2003, respectively.

The magistrate, Mrs. P.A. Ojo, did not take the pleas of the alleged robbers, but granted bail to the receivers, Adedayo and Alao, in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned further hearing in the matter to November 25, 2010.
