Siasia to invite more players

Samson Siasia
Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has said he will invite more players to bolster the team after noticing some weaknesses in their match against Sierra Leone on Wednesday.

Siasia said he was satisfied with the outcome of the game which ended 2-1 in favour on Nigeria but admitted there was the need to improve before the 2012 Nations Cup qualifier against Ethiopia.

“I won’t be discouraged by the performance of some of the players in the game,” Siasia said after the match at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

“There’s room for improvement and there’s always room for new players to play the roles where there were problems.

“We could have had a better match but some of the players I invited could not come due to injuries.

“I’m satisfied with the outcome of the game because the bottom line is winning. It’s a good start.”

It was the first time in eight years the Eagles would play in Lagos. They were however booed by the fans when the Leone Stars scored in the second half. Siasia said the booing was not a problem.

“It’s not a problem being booed,” he said. “It means we have to be on top of our game all the time.

“The only problem I foresee is the artificial turf. Some of the players are not good on artificial turfs and that’s the reason Mikel Obi could not play.

“I’ll have to discuss with the players about the pitch. If they agree, we’ll play in Lagos; if they don’t, we’ll go back to Abuja.”\
