Director of Sports in Abia State, Ejikeme Ikwunze, has cautioned coach Samson Siasia against using big names to prosecute the international friendly against Sierra Lone on Wednesday.
The man, who is fondly called Mr Football, in a telephone interview with Daily Sunsports advised Siasia to call the bluff of Europe-based players who are not fit and use those who are fit to prosecute his plans whether they are based in Jamaica or Nigeria.
He also said that experience had shown that most of the Europe-based players give their best when they discover that the man in charge has no room for discrimination. “ I want Siasia to use this friendly match against Sierra Lone to define his modus operandi. This will give the players, whether they are based on the moon or in the star, an insight on how they should conduct themselves for subsequent matches.
Again, only players that are fit and roaring to go should be fielded as most of them would want to use their base as a bargaining power to intimidate the technical crew. There is nothing wrong in playing professional football in Europe but our players have used it to cow us in recent times. I think It must be stopped”.
I am happy that Siasia has an opportunity to test the home- based players at the Green Bowl Toney in USA because our league players should form the back bone of Eagles. The time is now for us to start the rebuilding process and Siasia must stand firm he concluded.
