Popoola
Sports officials from the 36 states of the federation and Abuja will gather in Lagos next week to participate in the Olympic Value Educational Programme (OVEP) being put together by the Nigeria Olympic Committee in conjunction with the International Olympic Committee.
The programme which will hold between 15 and 19 February at the Union Bank Sports Complex, Surulere is aimed at teaching primary school pupils and secondary school students tenets of the Olympic movement. It was designed by the IOC so that the beneficiaries can imbibe these values in their day-to-day undertakings.
Addressing the media in Lagos Thursday on the IOC initiative, Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Tunde Popoola said, “one of the aims of the Olympic movement is to educate young people through sports in a spirit of better understanding and friendship.”
The five educational values promoted by the Olympic Games include joy of effort, fair play, respect for others, pursuit of excellence and balance between body, will and mind.
Facilitator of the programme, Professor Clement Fasan of the Lagos State University will be assisted by Patrick Omo-Osagie who will be handling the participants on teaching methods and Dr Ekioha of the National Institute of Sports, Lagos.
