AJ, Toni and Chito
As days turn into weeks, and weeks into months, Nigerian Idol keeps proving to viewers that the show is different from any other talent hunt to ever hit Nigerian TV.
Last week, the judges made public their displeasure on how viewers have voted, “I think they are a number of talents that the audience disregarded” Audu Maikori said during the last eviction show where Alex and
Onyeka emerged with the highest votes. So, it didn’t come as a surprise to many last Sunday when with mischief written all over her face, host Misi announced that “Make sure you don’t miss the show this Thursday. The Judges have decided to exercise their power, and we hear someone might be returning to the show”
And true to her words, this Thursday, six contestants- Immaculate, AJ, Tonii, Chito, Amadi and Rachael faced the judges for a second chance to be on the show. There were no performance, no renditions. The judges deliberated for a few minutes, and selected the contestants they would love to bring back into the competition.
“It’s a tough decision to make; all six contestants are talented, so sad we have to pick one each” Jeffery Daniel says before selecting AJ whose eviction two weeks back generated a lot of news interest.
Daniel obviously had three favorites out of the bunch- Immaculate, Amadi and AJ, but for ardent followers of the music reality show, it wasn’t entirely a surprise to see him pick the 23 year old
undergraduate of University of Calabar.
Audu Maikori on the other hand has continued to acknowledge Toni’s talent, so bringing her back didn’t come as a shock to many. All through her last performance, the cameras won’t stop catching the glimpse in his eye as he kept on nodding his head. “For someone to sing like that even with a cold, there’s no doubt to your talent” He finally said after her spectacular performance.
The wild card which sees three evicted contestants return to join the10 finalists is part of the Idols format which states that six or even more contestants may be brought back to the competition.
