FG saves N1bn every month from pension reforms — Oronsaye
The immediate past Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Steve Oronsaye, has said that the current pension reform saves the Federal Government about N1bn every month.
Oronsaye said this at his formal disengagement from office and handover to the new HCSF, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, on Thursday in Abuja.
While reviewing his 17-month tenure as HCSF, Oronsaye said about 100, 640 pensioners, who had been verified, were paid.
He said that there was an improvement in the quality of the service in the past 17 months, especially in capacity building. He called on his successor to complete the on-going reforms in the service.
In his address, Afolabi said he was humbled by the achievements of Oronsaye in reforming the civil service and promised not to deviate from the goals of the service.
He said, “We owe it a duty to our country and her citizens to always imbibe the core values of humility, integrity, honesty and efficiency, which made the federal civil service the shining light of Nigeria in years past.”
Afolabi pledged to boost the ongoing capacity building in the service by affiliating its management development institutes with universities in Nigeria and overseas.
