The police in Ekiti State have arrested two road transport union officials in connection with the murder Chief Adeleye Awolumate, a Peoples Democratic Party ward chairman in Moba council area.
The suspects are the Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Rotimi Olabiwonu, (aka Mentilo) and former chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Union, Mr. Tajudeen Hassan.
Police spokesman, Mr. Mohammed Jimoh, who made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, said the police had also commenced manhunt for some other persons linked to the crime.
Jimoh explained that the suspects were arrested based on a petition written by Awolumate family members alleging that Olabiwonu and Hassan led a faction of Oodua Peoples Congress to attack the deceased and some PDP members during a peaceful rally in Otun-Ekiti on November 18.
