Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio has urged indigenes residing within and outside the state to participate massively in the forthcoming voter registration slated for January 2011.
Speaking at the end of year party organised for Akwa Ibom indigenes resident in Abuja on Sunday, Akpabio said it was only when they had voter cards that they would be able to elect credible candidates of their choice, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
Akpabio, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Abuja Liaison Office, Mr. Inyang Ekoriko, re-assured the people that as President Goodluck Jonathan had promised to conduct credible elections in 2011, every vote would count.
He urged indigenes of the state resident in the Federal Capital Territory to continue to be good ambassadors of the state by avoiding acts that would damage the image of the state.
The governor also urged the people to be their brother’s keeper by assisting qualified indigenes to secure employment at the federal level in their respective organisations.
Akpabio asked Akwa Ibom indigenes residing outside the state to bring their children home and teach them their culture, including how to speak and write the local language.
