Rooneys christen son in a low-key ceremony

Coleen pushing Kai to Old Trafford on Saturday. Right is Rooney
For their son Kai’s first birthday, Wayne and Coleen Rooney splashed out on a £90,000 Disney-themed party. But when it came to marking the one-year-old’s spiritual journey through life, they wisely decided to tone things down.

The millionaire couple hosted a low-key, private Christening for Kai in Liverpool on Monday, with just family and the tots’ godparents in attendance.

Among the guests at the intimate ceremony were Coleen’s parents Tony and Colette McLoughlin and Wayne’s parents Thomas and Jeanette.

The christening – which comes just a few weeks after Kai’s lavish first birthday party – is another demonstration the Rooneys have got their marriage back on track following allegations of Wayne‘s alleged infidelity.

The family gathering explains Wayne’s absence from the United for UNICEF gala dinner at Old Trafford.

His teammates, including Michael Owen and Wes Brown, and their WAGS all dressed up for the annual fundraising dinner.

Kai‘s christening came after Wayne returned to Manchester United for the first time since threatening to leave the club last month.

Meanwhile, Coleen and Wayne, 25, are said to be discussing a trial separation, as the couple are still struggling to overcome the footballer‘s cheating scandal.

Reports of Wayne‘s alleged prostitute scandal came out in September, claiming that the Manchester United star paid Jennifer Thompson £1,200 a night for sex, and took part in a threesome with her friend Helen Wood while Coleen was pregnant with their son Kai.

Coleen, 24, has tried to put the devastating time behind her but a source told Closer magazine that she‘s now contemplating the idea of a temporary separation in January to help their marriage.

“Coleen is mulling over the idea of herself and Wayne taking time apart in the new year. She says it’s not working as it is at the moment – the trust is not being rebuilt.

“She’s desperate as they’re running out of options to fix it. They’ve tried counselling, they’ve tried a holiday away and now they’re looking at Wayne moving out temporarily and living apart for a while,” the source said.

The source added that their separation may only be for a few weeks, as Coleen doesn’t want to disrupt their one-year-old son’s life.

The player has been on the charm offensive with Man U fans, insisting he is fully committed to the club.

After announcing he wished to leave the club last month, just days later he performed a complete U-turn when he signed a new £200,000-a-week contract to remain at Old Trafford until 2015.
